You have the next three lesson to prepare this. You will present you idea to the class on Tues 6th Oct and I expect it to be of a high quality.
Your presentation needs to include the following
- Narrative Outline: Discuss the
narrative/plot of your opening.
Keep in mind that the opening needs set up the film but don’t make
it too complex.
- Explain the ideas/messages/themes
that you wish to explore in your film, how this will be done and why you
have chosen to focus on these ideas/messages/themes.
- Explain how your film will appeal to
the target audience. Discuss
specific features of your film and how you think they will appeal to your
target audience.
- Explain what thriller film conventions you will use and why. You might include a detailed discussion of at least five. Talk about films that have influenced you and try to talk about narrative conventions, character conventions as well as technical conventions.
- Practical details- discuss what your
film involves in terms of time, research, personnel, locations, equipment,
graphics and special effects? Consider what problems you might encounter
and how might you solve them?
- Audience feedback - once your presentation is complete you will need to get feedback. Develop a questionnaire for the class (including the teacher) to do. What do you want advice on? Explain what thriller film conventions you will use and why. You might include a detailed discussion of at least five.

How to add a Powerpoint to your Blog
In order to get your powerpoint onto your blog you need to use a programme called Slideshare. Set up an account using your school email
Once you have set up an account click on the UPLOAD button (it is the orange one!) and the screen shown below will appear
Using the orange button select the ppt, word, jpeg etc that you want to upload.
Fill in as much information as you can (will make it easier to find if you lose it but DON'T include personal information). If the box has a * it means you have to write something in the box.
Once you have fill in the boxes click 'Publish'.
Once it is published find the 'Share' button - it will be just below the powerpoint
Copy the Embed code
Once you have this code create a new post on your blog and click on the HTML button - don't delete any coding that is already there!
Paste the Embed code in and then call on the Compose button and you will see your powerpoint!

Holiday Homework
As well as making sure that you are up to date with blog post you have been set two projects to work on over summer.
The first one was to look at a range of music videos and complete textual analysis and try to link in as many of the ideas we have discussed in class

The second task was to start thinking about what you might do for your music video project. You need to come up with three individual ideas (even if you are working as a group).

Holiday Homework Tasks
Using the sheets I gave you in class you need to find out as much about our five case studies films as possible. Below this post you will find a post for each case studies where I have collected a range of resources for you to look through. You can look at others as well. As you read up on the case studies try to find the information into one of the boxes on the sheet - note that some case studies might not have a lot in some boxes while other will have too much to fit. Pick the best information, write small and use the back of the sheets if you need too. Don't forget to read the booklet you were given at Xmas. It has extra information and case studies. You can use the information from there in the exam as well.

The Art of the Title Sequence
As part of your Thriller film you need to create titles and show an awareness of the conventions surrounding use of titling at the start of films. In order to do this you need to do some research specifically on titles.
Using this website and this website you need to study how titles are used in at least three Thriller films. You could also look at the opening sequences to some recent TV programmes working in the Thriller genre like Dexter, True Detectives Hannibal and Sherlock
You need to work out what types of titles are used and also consider how the titles can be used to create meaning, suggest themes, mood etc. Think about how different font style suggests different things, think about what colours means, and how they might appear and disappear from the scene. You should also think about what background would be good for showing titles, slapping them on top of you actual film may not be the best thing. You need to think about them as a short (10sec) sequence.
Have a look at and comment on the way titles have been used in these student examples:
Missing
Revenge
Guilty
Consider what you might do for your titles. There are very basic titles in Final Cut Express but you can also create titles in Photoshop that you can import into Final Cut and there is a programme called Live Type on the Macs which does create very good titles. I am not an expert in Live Type but the internet has loads of tutorials.
Try to move away from doing text only posts at the moment so try Prezi or Glogster or another more exciting tool for this task. Both of these apps are very good ones that you will probably want to use for your evaluation so it is important to learn how to use them now.

Sound In Films
You need to carefully consider how sound can be used in film. Read the article given out in class today and looked at this website
You need to do at least three posts on sound - looking at examples, explaining what you have learnt from research, what you might do and why. You could also include samples of sound you are thinking about using and explain why. There are two good websites for sound here and here.

Understanding and Using Mise-en-Scene
Homework Task
Read the article 'Understanding and Using Mise-en-Scene.
Post about it - summarise what you have learnt (what is MES and how can it be used)
Explain with specific examples how you are planning on using MES and Why (especially costumes, props and locations)
You could create mood boards to give a visual representation of what you could do - Glogster is a good tool to do this
Due in on 21 Nov
