Planning your Evaluation

HOMEWORK TASK - as an individual complete the sheets below where you will be planning out how you will answer the 7 evaluation questions.  This is due in on Monday 19th  and I will be having a discussion with everyone about your planning.
Don't forget that the draft version on your thriller must be on your blog by the end of school on Monday as well.

Title Conventions

As part of your Thriller film you need to create titles and show an awareness of the conventions surrounding use of titling at the start of films. In order to do this you need to do some research specifically on titles.
Using this website and this website you need to study how titles are used in at least three films (at least 2 need to be thriller films).  You could also look at the opening sequences to some recent TV programmes working in the Thriller genre like Dexter, True Detectives Hannibal and Sherlock

You need to work out what types of titles are used and also consider how the titles can be used to create meaning, suggest themes, mood etc.  Think about how different font style suggests different things, think about what colours means, and how they might appear and disappear from the scene. You should also think about what background would be good for showing titles, slapping them on top of you actual film may not be the best thing. You need to think about them as a short (10sec) sequence.

The Final Idea

You will need to do this in a digital form so that it can go on your blog.

I will give you feedback but it would be a VERY good idea to get feedback from the class as well  - a quick survey for example.

Presenting your final idea:

On the 5^th October you will need to explain your idea to the rest of the class.  You will need to explain the following points

• Narrative Outline: Discuss the narrative/plot of your opening.  Keep in mind that the opening needs set up the film but don’t make it too complex. 
• Explain the ideas/messages/themes that you wish to explore in your film, how this will be done and why you have chosen to focus on these ideas/messages/themes.
• Explain how your film will appeal to the target audience.  Discuss specific features of your film and how you think they will appeal to your target audience.
• Practical details- discuss what your film involves in terms of time, research, personnel, locations, equipment, graphics and special effects? Consider what problems you might encounter and how might you solve them?

·      Explain what thriller film conventions you will use and why.  You might include a detailed discussion of at least five.

Independent Research 22 Sept

Today you will need start researching independently into Thriller films. Using the check list and other resources I have given you need pick a task and start work on it.
Remember that by 30 Sept you need to have the following posts on your blog:

•  Definition of the Thriller genre (including your thriller recipe)
• Narrative Conventions (both specific to thriller films and more generic narrative conventions e.g. the three act structure, cause and effect, conflict)
• Character conventions (both specific to thriller films and more general character ideas surrounding traits, goals, obstacles, choices. flat, round etc.) 
• Typical themes/ methods/ ideas in thriller films
• Technical conventions (camera, sound, editing, mise en scene)
• The work done in class on Shutter Island
• Group Presentation on a thriller opening
• Initial ideas about possible thriller films
• One other research task

You can use the work we did in class as a springboard for your posts but try to delve a little deeper and don't just copy and paste from my powerpoint!

Success Criteria

So now that you are finishing off your draft films it might be time to check them according to the success criteria which you were given at the start of the project.

 Looking at your film and the success criteria what mark would you give yourself?  It is out of 60.....
Write a post detail what mark you would award yourself and explain why.

Developing your FINAL idea

It is now time to decide on your final idea.
You have the next three lesson to prepare this.  You will present you idea to the class on Tues 6th Oct and I expect it to be of a high quality.
Your presentation needs to include the following

Develop a questionnaire for the class (including the teacher) to do.  What do you want advice on? Explain what thriller film conventions you will use and why.  You might include a detailed discussion of at least five.

How to embed a Prezi

How to add a Powerpoint to your Blog

In order to get your powerpoint onto your blog you need to use a programme called Slideshare. Set up an account using your school email

Once you have set up an account click on the UPLOAD button (it is the orange one!) and the screen shown below will appear 

Using the orange button select the ppt, word, jpeg etc that you want to upload.

Fill in as much information as you can (will make it easier to find if you lose it but DON'T include personal information). If the box has a * it means you have to write something in the box.

Once you have fill in the boxes click 'Publish'.

Once it is published find the 'Share' button - it will be just below the powerpoint

Copy the Embed code

Once you have this code create a new post on your blog and click on the HTML button - don't delete any coding that is already there!

Paste the Embed code in and then call on the Compose button and you will see your powerpoint!
